Thrift Store Haul With Easy Home Decor Makeover Ideas
Live Videos · Home Interior · DIY
I planned to work at a coffee shop. Then I spotted a thrift store. My plans changed fast. I came home with wood decor, hats, a jacket, and more.
This thrift store haul gave me many project ideas. Some pieces need paint. Some need sanding. A few may look best just as they are.
A Small Wood Cabinet
My favorite find may be the small cabinet. It has a drawer and a pineapple on the front. It also feels very heavy.
The folk art look feels a bit dated to me. Still, the size is so cute. I can see it on a dresser or shelf.
The cabinet needs a good cleaning first. Then I may paint it an off white color. A pretty green could also look great.
I want to keep the sweet shape and useful drawer. Paint can give it a fresh look. A new design could add more charm.
Straw Hats for Summer Decor
I found two straw hats that looked new. They will work well for yard work. They could also become part of my summer decor.
I once made a wall display with straw hats. These finds made me think about doing that again. A group of hats would look cute on my screened porch.
The straw adds warm color and texture. It also feels right for summer. I may use the hats first. Then they can go on the wall.
A Jean Jacket Project
I also found a jean jacket. It may be a little small for me. I already have someone in mind who can wear it.
I have decolorant paste for this project. I plan to use it with a design. The paste can help me change the look of the denim.
A bold design could make this jacket feel fresh. I am still choosing which design to use. This will be a fun piece to work on.
A Green Plant in a Basket
One find was dusty and dirty. It was still too cute to leave behind. I paid $4.99 for it.
The green plant sits inside a simple basket. It can add color to my back porch. It will stay green without water.
I love easy porch decor. A basket also adds a soft and natural look. This piece only needs a good cleaning before I use it.
A Wood Piece With Metal Corners
I paid $7 for a real wood piece. It has metal details on the corners. The mix of wood and metal caught my eye.
It could hold small items. I could hang it on a wall. It could also fit inside a drawer.
I have not picked one use yet. I like finding pieces that can work in many spots. This one gives me lots of choices.
A Kitchen Piece for a Chalkboard
I found a framed kitchen piece for $2.99. The outside border is already cute. I plan to keep that part.
I can paint the inside with chalkboard paint. I can also add a new design. Changing the center will help it work beyond the kitchen.
The size is great for a small sign. It could hold a short note or simple design. This should be an easy update.
A Heavy Wood Riser
The heavy wood riser was $6.99. It has a rough finish. I need to sand it before adding anything.
A riser can work in many rooms. It can lift a plant, candle, or small decor piece. It also gives a display more height.
I may add a design like one I used on a pillow. I still need to pick a paint color. The real wood gives me a good base.
A Stand for a Cookbook
I paid $3 for a small wood stand. It could hold an iPad or cookbook. That makes it useful in the kitchen.
The stand has words on the front. I plan to sand them away. Then I can add my own design.
I love finding useful wood surfaces. They are easy to change with paint and designs. This stand has a simple shape that can fit many styles.
A Real Wood Container
Another $4.99 find was a real wood container. It has a raised shape and lots of wood grain. Part of the finish needs some care.
I may sand the damaged area. I could also cover it with something placed inside. I like the current wood color, so I may keep most of it.
This container could hold candles. It could also hold the stuffed decor I made from Amazon bags. The deep shape makes it useful for many small items.
An Amber Bourbon Bottle
My final find was an empty bourbon bottle. The label reads Blanton Distilling Company Kentucky straight bourbon.
I love the amber glass. The little horse on top makes it special. The bottle also smelled clean.
I could remove the label and fill the bottle. I also like it just as it is. The warm glass color will look pretty with wood decor.
My Plans for These Finds
Every piece needs a little care. I will start by cleaning the dusty items. The rough wood pieces need sanding.
Next, I will choose paint colors and designs. The small cabinet may get off white or green paint. The wood stand will get a new design. The kitchen piece will become a chalkboard.
Some finds may stay close to their current look. The amber bottle already has great color. The wood container also has a finish I like.
The jean jacket may get the decolorant paste first.
